Flag of the Oceania Union

This is my flag for the Oceania Union. The flag’s design is based on both the Australian and New Zealand flags (which are almost exactly the same anyway) and proposed flags to replace the current Australian flag. The Union Jack is replaced by a gold colored Commonwealth Star that represents Australia (since it is the dominant nation of this union) and has five stars that represent the Southern Cross star constellation. The shape of the Southern Cross stars is based on the Australian version, while the stars color is based on the New Zealand version.

Originally Australia and New Zealand had intended to join the newly created Atlantic Federation so they could be reunited with the other Anglo nations. This was prevented when China invaded Australia. The AF was already occupied with Russia’s invasion of the British Isles and its own invasion of Venezuela, and was unable to send help despite Australia’s desperate pleas. However many Chinese forces were recalled from the region in response to Russia’s invasion of Hokkaido, allowing the combined militaries of Australia and New Zealand to crush the remaining invasion forces. This strengthened the already powerful bond between the two countries; added with their resentment of being abandoned by the AF pushed them to form the Oceania Union.

The OU was one of the four countries that officially refused to adopt the Torino Protocol and allows its citizens to make their children Coordinators. Before the end of the Second Bloody Valentine War it had the second highest percentage of Coordinators living on Earth closely following Orb. The OU is a strong supporter of the PLANTs move for independence, wanting to see an end to the Sponsor Nations oppression and Blue Cosmos’s terrorism of Coordinators. The OU condemned the EA’s invasion of the USSA and joined the conflict on the PLANTs side, allowing ZAFT to build the Carpentaria base. The OU military uses a variety of weaponry from linear tanks and F-7D Spearheads during the first war, and Mobile Suits purchased from ZAFT during the second war.

The Oceania Union has a Governor-General, a Prime Minister, and a two house Legislature. The capital is Canberra, the official language is English, and the currency is the Oceania Dollar.
